History of Lonar Lake:

Lake was formed by an asteroid collision with earth approx. 52,000 years back. This lake was discovered by British officer J.E Alexander in 1823. Earlier, it was believed that the lake was formed due to a major volcano eruption. The oval-shaped crater has a diameter of 1.2 kilometers (3,900 ft) and 137 meters below. You can see the lake from the plan if you travel towards Nagpur (orange city), India. Purna and Penganga small streams flow inside the lake. You will find a well of fresh water on the southern side of the lake.

It is a little difficult to reach the Lonar site easily, as the site is not well-connected to big towns or cities. You need to reach Aurangabad city (plan, railway). From there you need to take a cab or bus as per your need. The distance between Aurangabad and Lonar is 136 kilometers.
